Grant Programs
The Foundation supports two distinct grant programs, awarding Board Grants and discretionary President’s Grants. The Foundation also supports educational innovators in medicine and nursing through its new Macy Faculty Scholars program.
Board Grants
Our Board Grants are selected three times each year at our board meetings. Board grants are generally one to three years in duration. These are focused primarily on our priority areas: Interprofessional Education and Teamwork; Patient Safety, Quality Improvement, and System Performance; New Models for Clinical Education; Career Development for Underrepresented Minorities; and Education for the Care of Underserved Populations.
Board grants are evaluated on these key priorities:
- Relevance to our priorities;
- Importance and originality;
- Significance and generalizability; and
- Sustainability.
President’s Grants
Our President’s Grants can be given at any time and are evaluated and awarded by the President. President’s Grants usually align with our priority areas and awarded amounts are no more than $35,000.

Macy Faculty Scholars
The Macy Faculty Scholars program – the first of its kind – launched in December 2010. The program aims to identify and nurture the careers of educational innovators in medicine and nursing. Each Scholar will receive salary support at $100,000 per year over two years. Scholars must be nominated by the Dean of their institutions, who must commit to protecting at least 50 percent of the Scholars’ time to pursue education reform projects at their institution.
